May Day

May Day1 may day2 may day3 May Day4 May Day5 May Day6It is May Day Bank Holiday here in the UK. That is just like May Day anywhere else except that most holidays here are moved to the nearest Monday.

As you will gather there is no Weekly Round-Up today, instead we have a series of random pictures of people celebrating May Day or otherwise gearing up for summer.

The first image reveals the significance of Stonehenge. The length of a leather strap that at once wraps around and painfully kisses the nether cheeks of all the ladies assembled, so that neither a surfeit nor a paucity of leather be, is equal to pi (as represented by the dominant stone pillars) multiplied by twice the distance from fire to cheek.

It is a similar site – but it is not Stonehenge (as I guess you knew) . It is either in the Sicily Isles or somewhere in Scotland (not sure which).

But this is the month for pagans 😉

Is this what Led Zeppelin meant in their chef d’oeuvre, ‘Stairway to Heaven’, with the lyric “If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now/ It’s just a spring clean for the May queen”?
