Just one more word…

Gidget spankedRueful GidgetSandra Dee as Gidget bottom in jeopardySandra Dee spanked as Gidget“Just one more word young lady and I’m going to spank your bare bottom purple.” These words or words very much like them were uttered by an irate mother to her obviously grown up daughter in a lost Saturday afternoon movie, long, long ago.

Maybe a week a later an angry father would threaten his young 20-something daughter with “I’ll spank you until you can’t sit down for a week.”

Needless to say no US movie made in the 1950s and shown in UK TV in the 1970s was ever going to show any such thing; however sometimes in the barren desert that was puberty such lines were gold.

Such movies were peppered with these lines and sometimes, just sometimes threats were carried out.

When one is 12 or 13, the best movies featured late teen girls who reminded one of the girl next door or someone’s nasty big sister.

One afternoon a bizarrely named movie called Gidget was watched, on the strength of the fact that it sounded a bit like gadget and might have been a sci-fi film. The disappointment was mitigated somewhat when the spit of the grown up girl next door was threatened with a hairbrush applied “where it would do the most good.”

Quite ordinary movies, often westerns would contain random threats, remembered long after the forgotten movie that spawned it is lost in time.

The implied bare-bottomed spankings were best. Such lines as: “ooh, I’m gonna spank your bottom shiny ‘til I can see my face in it,” and “gentleman leave the room, there is something I need to get to the bottom of.”

Sometimes it was just a facial expression and an absently protected bottom that would speak volumes.

The sad thing is, asides from the aforementioned Gidget, which was in fact largely devoid of spankings (some of the pictures above are from a TV show of the same name not see in the UK), most of these films are forgotten.

One movie in particular shows a scene with a very grown-up tomboy chased around the house and out to the woodshed with assorted suggestive threats before it fades. The next scene has the dejected girl sitting in the horse trough to cool her bottom and lamenting the fact that it will be a while before she’ll be able to sit down.

No doubt the scene was not as good as the one that is remembered, but maybe someone else remembers it? Any takers?

Some sweet pictures. The last one on the surfboard reminds me of Dallas’ recollections of being a surfing instructor in Hawaii where he discovered that some of his female tourist students appreciated a spanking to “take home” with them as a sort of excursion to the fringe of propriety. That’s for women who wouldn’t want to have casual sex, but casual spanking, under the guise of punishment, could be an exciting alternative.

I don’t remember that scene but it does sound familiar though.

You post did put me to mind of this scene from ‘The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer’. I couldn’t find a video clip but here it is from the radio play:

In the film, Shirley Temple shows up in Myrna Loy’s room with a pressing need to smooth the back of her skirt, it seems. But as you can tell from the dialogue, her explanation to Myrna seems a bit scripted.

I’m not familiar with that scene. But I thought there was a subtle reference to TTWD in the musical ‘Love Never Dies’ when Raoul said to Christine, “I’ll deal with you later!” Is Andrew Lloyd Weber a spanko or is it just me reading too much in between the lines?

Interesting Karl – I once saw a documenatry where a man showed he could get women to do quite radical stuff at the beach that theywouldn’t otherwise do – including posing nude – spanking wouldn’t have been a stretch.

Thanks for the clip Nikolai – I remember the movie – exactly an example that I’m talking about. 🙂

I’ll deal with you later is a line heavy with promise Min. 😉

    Thanks DJ

I do not recall the movie with the “tomboy” but just about 3 wks ago they showed on TCM, the Gidget movie with Moondoggie; I thorougly enjoyed watching it again!!

The best movies I think were from the 50’s / 60’s / 70’s maybe the 80’s the last movie I attended was in 2002 when DiCaprio starred as a Con Man; it was pretty good!!!

In fact, Im thinking the best years of one’s life was during the 50’s when I was just a “wee thing” and then 60’s – till when I became a “baby boomer”, a late blooming one at that :))!!

There’s a second spanking in Gidget (of someone else).

And the film version of the Bachelor and the Bobby soxer has a far better threat. Doesn’t use the word lambasting for a start!

      Thanks for that.

Gidget was just because I had pics and it was an early memory of the potential of these films – it was a standfor for all those 1950s movies that were still being shown on saturday afternoon back in the 1970s when I was a lad. 🙂

There were many other movies that were better – Fort Petticoat, which was on a short while ago had its spanking scene restored – for one.

Sadly so many of them are running cut still (although in the UK Channel 4 and its various channels like Film 4 – tends to respect the art warts and all.

This is such a big subject and has been discussed many times before on this blog and no doubt will be again.

      Thanks for the input. 🙂
